There are 20 Conservative councilors out of the 54 in total in Brighton. It is lunacy but from both sides it appears.

Michael, 54 minus 20 equals 34, meaning those with a modicum of sense (not total sense, all of them) are always in the minority. The lunatics have well and truly taken over the asylum.

I love the comments in articles like this. The frothing, faux moral outrage is a joy to behold.

Why shouldn't children choose their gender, based on their feelings, rather than have it defined by their parent. As long as they can change it periodically, I see no problem at all with it. But then it should be based also on children's perception of their gender, not a check list of acceptable terms. If they want to put their gender as Tiger Dragon, then that's fine with me also - as its their understanding of their gender that matters, not our preconceptions.

Shouldn't children be left to be children rather than have 'gender politics and identity' be forced upon them at an early age?

Why shouldn't they also be asked to choose their species? This afternoon I'm going to be a camel, and tomorrow, a dragon. I may be a unicorn on Friday, as a treat.

How far are we taking this, do the teachers have to inspect each child's genitals to determine what they will be, because that could be a problem. Gender and sexuality is largely irrelevant to children - its adults at that age that socially condition them according to their preconceptions of how boys and girls should behave and express themselves. Let them be what they want to be. Its a stupid social construct to enforce the boundaries of adult conceptions of gender, behaviour, interests and sexuality on to children. Those are our hang ups, not theirs.
