Dreadful scene and thoughts are with those affected by this atrocity:

We need to stand with pakistan and not leave them to the fate of the extremists.

Disgraceful - targeting children in a play park?

Apparent motive is an attack on the Christian community of Lahore who were celebrating Easter. In the whole of pakistan roughly about 2% of the population are Christian, the rest are pretty much Muslims.

This is what I said on the other thread about Muslim intolerance. Here in the UK, the Muslim community represents just over 5% and they are more than tolerated.... they are encouraged to build Mosques, celebrate Ramadan and other religious festivals and are definitely protected by our police.

Attacks on Muslims or their property is rare - apart from this weekend in Glasgow where a Muslim shopkeeper was murdered by another Muslim for showing kindness and solidarity with our own Christian community.

I like Matt, hope that pakistan come to their senses and learn to be tolerant of other faiths, cultures and lifestyles alien to their strict Muslim beliefs.

If not, there will be a backlash from the far right extremists and their support will continue to grow in numbers - we've already seen violent demonstrations in Brussels this weekend.

Religion really does hold this planet back.

All too often Religion is held up as the reason yet it is really the excuse for the most abhorrent behaviour that is fundamentally man-made. Both Taliban & ISIS creeds are a massive distortion from Islam faith.

On a separate note, there has to be considerable doubt as to the efficacy of pakistan's security forces and Government promises to tackle terrorism given the spate of recent bloody attacks. Wasn't there corruption exposed via the previous administration led by Musharraf?

Not religion, Hoof, fanaticism.... Islam actually recognises Jesus as a great prophet (but not the Messiah of Christianity) and has great reverence for the Virgin Mary. It also teaches that those who follow Christianity should be respected as 'children of the Book' (the Koran). So these attacks are nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with hardline fanatics imposing their 'brand' of Islam.

As an aside, does anyone remember the guy on here several (7/8 ) years ago who kept posting chunks of the Koran to prove that it was not a peaceful religion? Cant remember if he left of was banned, but most of what he predicted seems to be coming about.....

Forgive my ignorance, but is that the same pakistan which harbored known terrorists, such as our old friend, Osama?

The same pakistan, which is widely accepted as being one of the most active state sponsors of terrorist groups in the world?

Yes, I have huge sympathy with those innocents who have been blown up, but we need to stand up to the pakistani government, not stand with them!

It is religiously inspired fanaticism though Becks, whatever you say.

You will have different levels of belief in any religion - my next door neighbours are devout Christians and very strict on adhering to the bible whereas most in our street would regard themselves as Christians but haven't been to Church or seen a bible for decades!

Whatever you say, these fundamentalist types regard themselves as Muslims and are carrying out these atrocities in the name of Islam or so they believe because they can refer to texts in the Koran that direct such action.... and yes I know most Muslims don't adhere strictly to the teachings of the Koran, eg "Death to all Infidels", but it is worrying how many actually do!

Religion should be like sex. A lot of people do it but, apart from Stan Collymore, it should be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home.

I understand what you are saying but the partition of India and pakistan, with the ensuing chaos caused by the creation of what is essentially a country comprising of warring tribal factions, is to me one of the worst legacies Britain has left the World.

pakistan is a basket case and the job of trying to rule it complex, nigh on impossible. pakistan clearly needs the World to stand with it because if countries like pakistan can be helped, then we can neuter the extremists and their funding/supply chains.

The pakistani Secret Service have certainly been in cahoots with the religious nutters and once upon a time actively encouraged and helped The Taliban form in the first place.

The moderates there who speak out are very brave.

Nope, life should be inspired by religious values especially where looking out for others, and not oneself, is concerned. Religion has been corrupted by too many man-made forces intent in butchering the so-called name of their faith.

Well, it is Easter....

Absolutely agree with this. More than any country of Muslims, pakistan should remain the greatest concern in terms of the rise of extremists. The security and prosperity of a stable pakistan is vital to the confrontation of certain extremist factions - And it should be a major concern how far pakistan has been slipping down this route over the 21st Century.
