Varoufakis is a very well respected anti austerity economist. Even the Adam Smith Institute have conceded that he's one of the world's foremost economic experts.

Quite rightly wanted Greece to reject IMF proposals to add more debt in the bailout package stating that it was a way for private companies to get Greek public assets on the cheap.

A very good appointment imho.
