Probably about 30 odd years ago I went to Richer Sounds on London Bridge Walk and bought a Dual CS505 turntable and excitedly went home and plugged it into the amp (can't remember name) and the AR6 speakers I had got second hand. It was superb (on a budget of course!) Now, to the modern day, I am heading to the UK at the end of Feb and want to buy some new separates and build a new vinyl collection. I am looking for turntable, amp and speakers. Have checked out Richer Sounds again (nostalgic) and saw a package of Onkyo A9010 amp and Q Acoustics 3020 speakers, £314, seems a good deal. I am not sure what turntable to add, possibly the Project Elemental for around £150. So, any alternative suggestions or comments on the above hi-fi buffs? My budget is around £500. Many thanks. To be honest, I wanted to go more stripped down and did not want or need CD and have no interest in radio in this purchase. Thank you anyhow, looks nice and good reviews.

30 years ago most amps included an output for either mm or mc cartridges, the usual trend nowadays is for a separate phono stage. Project also sell a phono stage. A turntable from 30 years back and still in production is Rega, perhaps a bit more costly than the Project,a big favourite with audiophiles though. Although not consider the very best magazine "what hi-fi"

I think that must be the understatement of the year as people often wonder whether What Hifi actually remove the equipment from the box that they are reviewing let alone actually listen to it. Sadly I am years out of date on what is available so can't advise as I moved to the dark side of five channel many years ago.
