I'd also give mentions to both Mitch Mitchell and Mick Fleetwood.

I've seen a comment on youtube about Bonham saying he was sh1t because he cheated by having two snares - LOL.... he's still gotta hit the fcuking things at the right time! Look at the Guitar Heroes thread - I've posted a video link for Nils Lofgren. Watch the drummer on that video - I don't know who he is but by christ he can drum/keep a beat.

For me,as an aspiring semi-pro drummer in my teens, Keef Hartley was a fine drummer and my first inspiration. He used dynamics effectively and used a variety of styles-jazz, blues, rock & Latin etc. In terms of drum breaks, Buddy Rich had the greatest technique we will ever see. Dave Clark of the Dave Clark 5 was pretty basic, but always looked extremely happy, whereas most drummers have a "drummer's face" while they're playing: Buddy Rich snarled, (in keeping with his personality).

Michael Shrieve (Santana), particularly for the solo in Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock, aged 20: Must be one of the most 'musical' drum solos ever.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |
