Elys in Wimbledon have a rota of 5 or 6, and I know most of them! Not for me though. Haven't quite got the build. The nippers would be asking when it was that Santa took up smack.

Cucking has had many an excited lad sit on his lap and receive a 'gift' in his time. Plus he often wears a 'festive' outfit whilst doing this. Edited by matt_himself (02 Dec 2015 2.54pm)

Whoah! What do you mean 'job'? Surely there is only one Santa, and he appears simultaneously in many shopping centres through the magic of Christmas?

I was Santa last year. I'd been made redundant from an office-based job in September and I didn't have a clue what to do with my life. A friend suggested getting in contact with a company called The Ministry of Fun. They ran a Santa School but before I could attend the school, I had to go to a preliminary interview. I had to stand up in front of all the staff and other wannabe Santas (and wannabe elves!) and either tell a joke, sing a song or just do something memorable... This company prides itself on delivering the best (and probably most expensive ) Santas in the industry. After Santa School and having a beard specially made to fit my face, I still wasn't home and dry. I had to attend a further Santa audition but it was all worth it. The following week I started what turned out to be 14 days work (earning a little over 2 grand) at the place Santa first made an appearance in the U.K.; Selfridges! No grotto there. You just bump into the kids shopping with their parents. Seeing the joy in all the kids faces was an unforgettable and rewarding experience. To any other potential Santas out there. Go for it! You won't regret it.

I was a Father Christmas for my daughter's dance club. The costume was made for a usual proportions Santa and I'm short & not rotund, but I got through it & it was great fun. I managed to drop in a line about being sure to help their mums & dads at this busy time and the parents present liked this line a lot. Whilst it was only a one-off performance I'd encourage anyone asked to try the role to throw yourself into it. I didn't give up my day job, but it's a good memory.

I've come down the chimney a few times. And been in and out without waking a child no doubt.

One of my half-time grassy-knoll buddies has been Santa amongst other famous characters including the not-so lucky England rugby mascot, Ruckley.
