Too late for me I was born poor and ugly, but seriously folks, she tried to top herself with champagne and pills and is refusing dialysis.

I'm not so sure that is necessarily her motive though. Certainly the overdose came following a diagnosis of breast cancer, and that caused enough damage for her kidneys to pack up.

Quite agree with her though, to an extent, life is not about quantity, but quality. She is an adult and mentally capable of making decisions, and clearly places a great emphasis on a way of life, she will no longer be able to engage in.

The tragedy here is maybe that we as a society will make her die of renal failure , from refusal of dialysis treatment, rather than allowing her to euthanize quickly and certainly a lot less painfully.

Agree we should all have the right to refuse treatment.
Not too sure about euthanasia. Could be the thin edge of a very slippery slope. Unfortunate maybe that she failed in her original suicide attempt.

I think if you are going to allow someone to refuse treatment, that will inevitably be fatal, its not a big step to go the rest of the way and help them avoid a painful death from toxin build up, and organs shut down. Its odd that we're quite moral about sparing animals the suffering we demand that humans must go through. Obviously a legal frame work, and rulings, should be required, as well as establishing a sound mind and terminal consequence.

Generally I'd be wary of making euthanasia too easily accessible or uncontrolled, but in this matter a judge has ruled, and independent sources have established that its her choice and that she is of sound mind.

Ah, so it's you that's going round putting a strain on the NHS. No wonder this country is a shambles.

Given that being poor and ugly are relative judgements, suicide seems a bit of an over reaction, when you could just move up north.

I went to Hull once, and I swear I was the only person who actually had thumbs.
