I'm sure I read someone on here state that everything generally goes in to a shared pot so as to benefit the entire staff including the manager, regardless of whether it's cash to the waiter or service charge on your card but presumably that was just in some socialist utopia. I see the row carries on from Cote being exposed (same people as Bill's) and now everyone seems to be at it. I'm glad now people might not be made to feel tight by withholding the 12.5% on the premise that they'd be fcuking the chef over in doing so. this is a bugbear of mine . they are putting a service charge on the bill which is discretionary and this goes not as a tip but pays the wages . since I realised this after the independent did a big campaign on this a good few years ago , I now ask if they get this as a tip , if they say they don't I then ask if I leave cash do you get it and every time they say yes . so get the discretionary tip taken off the bill and leave cash and it is a real tip interviewer " iggy , do you think you influenced anybody?" iggy pop " I think I wiped out the 60`S "

The best one i've had was when out for one of my nieces birthday. I can't remember what is was called but it has food from all over the world.

They'd added the service charge as the table was more than 8 people, yet the place was self-service and the standard of the food didn't exactly merit the "chefs" getting that much either.

Because they think by slipping it into the small print, as once you're already in, seated and looking at the menu, possibly ordered drinks too before noticing, that people will not want a confrontation about it and if they're right, it's free money. Nando's..... you virtually have to serve yourself.... only went there once and they didn't get a tip. I like restaurants where you are seated, the waiter takes your order and serves you attentively. He/she gets a cash tip at my discretion depending on how efficient/friendly/helpful they are. I would never pay a surcharge added to the bill out of principle.

I like restaurants where you are seated, the waiter takes your order and serves you attentively.

He/she gets a cash tip at my discretion depending on how efficient/friendly/helpful they are.

I would never pay a surcharge added to the bill out of principle.
