Is there a list of covers OF Sisters of Mercy songs? I ask despite only being able to recall Cradle of Filth covering No Time To Cry...but that surely can't be the full list.

I'm glad Sisters of Mercy have their own thread on here now though. We won't be annoying all the Oasis and Coldplay fans with our digression now.

I was at school with SoM guitarist Ben Gunn, aka Benjamin Matthews. I shared this information with kermit8 a while ago and he was very excited, being as he is a big SoM fan. Our families were close friends and I used to knock about with Ben and his brother in Clapham in the 1970's. They moved to Leeds and we visited them a few times up there. I don't actually like their music but am contractually obliged to drop Ben's name into any conversation about Sisters of Mercy which I come across. Edited by Seth (23 Apr 2015 4.01pm)

Back in the 90s my mate bought these 'Tribute to the Sisters' CDs, which essentially where bands who recorded sisters cover versions. Arguably two of the worst audio experiences of my life. There were maybe three decent tracks on there. Generally the rule of thumb is that if you like the Sisters of Mercy and The Mission, you can't help but love Rosetta Stone (not their NIN knock off stuff of later years). Essentially they were a band who's relative success was entirely down to sounding like both bands, and actually touring and releasing stuff. I quite liked them, even the Tyranny of Inaction (which is basically the SoM trying to do NIN). They s**t but they're kind of great s**t.

Sigue Sigue sputnik...over-rated but I was at this one. I think I said before but the guy next to me was thrown out of a 2nd story window.

Although the article says it was not released, I think Jolene was not released by the SoM but as a Peel session. I can no longer respect the link as a source of Goth goodness.

If you can track it down, there is a book called 'Names are for Tombstones' which is a Mission biography, but covers Wayne and Craigs time in the Sisters of Mercy as well - along with a lot of Sisters stories. Its a bit of a collectors item these days. But worth a read, especially the bit about the Sisters of Mercy period and the split. Edited by jamiemartin721 (23 Apr 2015 4.45pm)
