Yeah the same voice point was interesting. Either the management leaves or the players recycle.
As Palace don't have a high turnover rate in players, it made natural progression for Roy and Ray to leave.

I wonder if this is a case of the psychology of motivation i.e. After a while players stop believing in the manager's hype or methods and so can't find the extra gear in performance any more.
Could be slightly different at the top teams that win trophies more often than not, as the carrot is always there as an extra dimension to motivate.

Makes you wonder about Sean Dyche though as he's been at Burnley for donkey years!

This theory would also fit well with the 'new manager bounce' that we see so often with clubs in the first weeks after a change. Then they settle into routine.

An excellent end of term report.

Well worth a read.

Thank you Ray, you've done good.

Always had time for Ray. I spoke to him a few times back in the day (1990s) and he was always open, direct, clear, and never condescending. Had time to answer questions, too. This was in sharp contrast to David Kemp (another contemporaneous coach/assistant manager) who, frankly, spoke mostly gibberish. When Ray got his shot at managing us the first time around, I liked his approach. Tactically, he was very open-minded and creative but results didn't come immediately and he wasn't given much time. I thought then and still do now that we should have persevered with him. Not surprised it's a good, insightful read. Top man. I'm probably alone in thinking this, but there are worse replacements for Roy out there in my opinion.
