I am trying very, very hard not to join their number, but it becomes more and more tempting every week! Whenever I get carried away I look again at the stats regarding the number of players who won international youth tournaments for England (including the World Cup) and didn't even become professionals. That sobers me up a bit. Anyway, well done to the youngsters for today, let's hope more than the usual one or two every few years proves good enough to play regularly in the premier league, and that if not, they are at least enjoying their football now without putting all their eggs in the basket marked 'football'. Good points. It's one thing looking the cat's whiskers against other 17/18 year olds but another thing being able to step up to senior level. The history of the game is littered with great prospects that never made the grade. But - every player now playing in the EPL had to come through the junior ranks, so why shouldn't some of our young hopefuls do so? I guess the questions are, are they a good as they appear? Can McCarthy and Derry continue to develop them to a level where they are ready for senior football? Will Roy, or whoever is coach, have the confidence to give them a chance? In the last 10 years only Johnny Williams, Wilf, Wan Bissaka and Mitchell have made the step up. None of the others we had on our books during that period have gone on to prove the club seriously wrong in letting them go. So, are our current crop flattering to deceive, or do we have some genuine prospects? Lets's hope it is the latter.

It's good that R-S has had some exposure to 1st team training. If he's a smart kid that will have shown him how big the gap between U18 and 1st team is and he'll want to go away and do his best to bridge it. On the other hand he may just think he's the cat's whiskers, in which case, good bye. Totally agree. If the above mentioned players have broken through to the first team at those clubs there is no way they can’t be introduced to the first team squad at palace. If they are good enough why delay it, get them in the 1st team squad. You do need a manager to have the same feeling about youth though. The current management would not entrust minutes to youth players.

It was about this time last season when either Parish or Hodgson (I can't remember which one of them) said, we have to find a way of bringing youngsters through.
