My understanding is that Sorloth was purchased for £9 Mill rising to £16.5 Mill if certain conditions were met.

I don’t know where the 20m comes from we were never spending that on him? How much was the squad worth he inherited tho and the wage bill, ultimately its the boards fault but is it not down to the manager to put pressure on the board to spend money ? Not blaming Roy and I think he has been fairly happy with the squad and knows he can keep them up, which the board is happy with. Neither the board nor Roy seems to want drastic changes which is fair enough, he can do his job and the board are happy ticking along which is all well and good untill we end up in the position we are in now, all players past their best, out of contract, only a few players with a good sell on fee. The manager and the board are both to blame, especially if zaha goes aswell, we might aswell be a newly promoted side this summer. Look at our squad, zaha is now a cf, so that's zaha, benteke, batshuayi, ayew, mateta and Wickham, what other teams in the league have 6 centre forwards ? We play 442 and have one proper winger who's legs have gone, parish, freedman and Hodgson are all equally to blame. Edited by rikz (12 Mar 2021 12.39am)

Goal differential is the best measure of how good a team is. WBA is worst in the league, then Sheffield. We're tied with Newcastle for 17th/18th place. That seems like a pretty accurate assessment of how we have looked this season. I honestly think we're better than Newcastle, but other bad teams like BHA and Fulham have dominated us when we played them. So no, I don't think we are better than our points, I think we are worse than our points total. Not based on our roster, but based on how we have looked in the all the matches.

We are exactly as our points total. Goal difference is the best measure in your opinion, which is cool, but it's not fact. Originally posted by Wilbraham413

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

It was an interesting piece of analysis that I admit I hadn’t considered before as a way of comparing teams. I must admit that I agree with him, that we have more points than we should have given the way we have played. Not complaining though because I would rather be where we are than having a decent goal difference and 6/8 points worse off.

What's amazing is that in the midst of 'Roy-out' and 'We are garbage' is the fact this current team/squad is on the brink of bringing home one of the greatest season's in the history of the football club. Our highest-ever top-flight league finish is third (1991) and the next best is tenth (2015). We are currently eleventh, which is equal third-best finish all-time.

I agree we have some good quality players. It's because of that that I find it so frustrating that Roy has us playing such negative football. With players as good as Wilf, Eze, Townsend, Guita and, yes, even Benteke, (and you could add others like Tomkins, Luka, Reidewald and PVA, maybe also Clyne and, who knows, maybe Mateta) why do we set up week after week like 4th division minnows facing giants? You remember Alan Pardew?

I think we are good enough to do the job of staying in the premier league every season ! that is what the ambitions of the board is and that is what Roys job is , nothing more nothing less ! However , there has to be a major overhaul for next season to achieve this as most of the players are past their prime and are slowing in pace, dont get me wrong i love palace and always will but the game is getting faster and our team is getting older and slower. As Roy says there are games we dont expect to win and to be honest i wouldnt expect us to win . What i hate though is loseing 7 nill 4 nill 5 nil and shrugging the shoulders and saying move on to the next one. Its going to be a long summer and hopefully some new faces on the pitch .Also it will take a while for any new players to fit in to our way of playing . Its hard to be a palace fan sometimes but fcuk it who we going to support , Liverpool nah fcuk that id rather watch cricket and i fcuking hate cricket .
