They've got a lot of potential but barely any premiership experience and they had the shortest time in history to prepare for the Premiership. Unbeaten in 5 with two wins, they've acclimatised to the higher standard and stand a good chance of survival. Classic case of a newly promoted side improving throughout the season but possibly too late.

Funny enough I was just thinking along those lines last night... Not for manager but certainly when he does decide to retire then to get him embedded into our coaching and youth set-up because he's a consummate professional.

I posted the other day that I thought he has been a stand out player for us recently and he certainly behaves like the captain. Shows far more passion and leadership on the pitch than Luka. After his time at Chelsea I am still surprised he has become one of us so well and, yes, in view of all this he would get my vote to become manager. I still like Scott Parker though, and Thomas Frank. Oh dear I wouldn't want to make the decision.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I don't understand why he isn't captain. Although making Wilf captain would reward his effort and might keep Wilf from losing his focus when fouled. Not sure about Wilf being captain. I think he is too wrapped up in his own game to be able to see the big picture and I don't see him as a natural leader. I'm not sure after all this time he is ever going to be able to change his spots and keep a level head, even with the captain's armband.

Do like the idea of a young manager in the 80s we took a punt on Saint Steve but we do forget that it took 2 to 3 seasons to get the team going. These days managerS dont get very long before the chop.As for Rooney Derby have not exactly been flying since he took over although they have improved a bit. I think I was just looking at gerrard, Rooney and lampard as examples. I personally don’t want to see the next one of the pack (Pulis, big sam, Bruce etc) come in after Roy. I keep seeing mark Hughes popping up and I can him getting his turn with us. I think I’m just craving something fresh. Look at Scott Parker and how he’s now getting a tune out of Fulham. With the lack of funds available and if he were to do his badges etc, why not. I do however acknowledge that the lack of management experience is a big problem.

Could certainly use Cahill in the John Terry type role .As a defensive/coaching role

I'd like us to get to 38 points then offer RH a post upstairs (I suppose)and hand the team over for the rest of the season to Shaun Derry and Paddy McCarthy who have been doing great things with the U.23 and U.18.If there is something to be said for understanding the 'House culture', then these two have strong credentials. I know Derry's record in management elsewhere isn't good, but he's never had decent players to work with. I like Cahill, but he isn't as far down the road to management as these two.

Agree with getting a replacement for Roy in early with the big upheaval likely .But not Derry&co as too much of a risk in my opinion. But agree soon as safe then we need to start rebuilding process for next season.

Cahill definitely high up in the set up, but not as number one just yet I'd say. One ex-Palace player who I always thought would make a coach one day was David Wright, he had two left feet but he had the best positional sense I've ever seen, he's been with Norwich U23s and 18s for a few years now, and they have a very good production line of young players. I'm not suggesting making him manager, but I could see him as someone to replace Ray Lewington, bit left field possibly, but I've had one eye on Wright for a long time, seems a classic case of a lesser player being much better as a coach bcos of his reading of the game.
