Remember the sequence, awful tackle in the centre circle, but was in not the Big Match opening? My memory is diminishing

Well how do you expect me to remember then as I'm older than you. Match of The Day and The Big Match have both melded into one in my memory

what was the mid week one on BBC ?
sportsnight?
highlights of mid week games, the opening sequence was floodlights zoo in & out with a fast catcht theme.
Palace would always be on last & I'd nod off after staying up to catch the highlights.
Didnt come on until a good 10pm or later.

Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

I have a recollection of 'Sportsnight' presented by Peter Dimmock.
I believe I once saw them televise Bruce Tulloh running bare-footed at the White City Stadium. Also Derek Ibbotson.

I also have a recollection of 'Quiz Ball'.

There is an episode of Quiz Ball on YouTube. Arsenal v Notts Forest. Each team had a celebrity guest since it was thought footballers lack of media training would inhibit them. It’s amusing to see three of the Forest team smoking pipes during the programme.

In this modern era one just doesn't witness anyone puffing on a pipe.
Several years ago I used to know a charming gentleman who was affectionately known as "Pat the pipe" because of his regular use of his precious "Briar".

My first game was 1958, from there to the Allison era, we were hardly ever in the “papers” then bang, we were famous, brilliant time, there were some murmurs about change of colours and nickname, but was soon forgotten, i remember being in The Spa public house with loads of fans before going to an away game, we were drinking babycham chasers with our beer, all down to big mal

I’ve supported Palace since I was 9 years old. Started to start paying attention in the mid 90’s and become pretty obsessed since.

During the entirety of my following, Palace have been nicknamed ‘The Eagles’.

Now I appreciate they were formally known as ‘The Glaziers’ and I was just interested in how fans of the time felt during the transition between the two titles?

Was there uproar? Grumbling? Barely audible muttering? Or was it just generally accepted?

The question is based on standard curiosity based on if a team attempted something like that in the modern day, I suspect there would be uproar.

I Look forward to any comments or recollections that anybody may have.

COYP!

Like most aged fans I cannot remember much dissent about the changing the name from Glaziers to Eagles, there was some protestation in the Croydon Advertiser at the time but that did not progress in to anything more serious. What I do remember with affection is the ''The Glaziers Club''located to the right of the main players and office entrance under the old stand. The players of the day both home and some visitor players used to meet up there for a ''pint'' and chat after the game and they would also mingle with fans and it was a great way to get to know them rather than just see them from a distance on the pitch. The club itself was busiest at weekends but it was open most days and local fans who were members often used it as their local. The club also had a snooker table. Happy days indeed!
