of course it is for the clubs finances, football in the PL is big money these days. The clubs worth is much greater in PL than it would be in the championship. I also prefer survival football in the top league, something we have become good at under Roy who has not had much team investment from the board during his tenure so all things considered he is doing a wonderful job! The lack of team succession planning is not his fault and until that happens I cannot see things changing that much and in order to attract a good manager to replace Roy when he does retire will indeed need a more positive pragmatic approach from the investors if we are to progress away from the survival mode, otherwise the future will lead us back to the championship and maybe ever lower horizons!

Different contexts. Had Pardew stayed till the end of the 2016/17 season, we almost certainly would have been relegated having won just 1 of 11 and in 17th place when he was sacked at Christmas 2016.

..survived lol, we can never know can we ..no matter what.
