Might be an obvious answer but how have we not landed a prolific striker in the last few seasons? The fact that Leeds Utd have managed to sight Rodrigo from Valencia for £27mil, surely we should be in for players of his caliber. The amount of money that we must have made over the years being in the Premier League and we still can't get a player like him. Yes I know Leeds have a bit of cash but surely we are not that strapped for cash that we can't afford £27mil to cover a position that is priority. And yes I know our wage bill is hiked up with the likes of Sakho and Benteke but I think the club need to address this and look at other clubs with a lesser reputation than us and realise that if they are doing sound business then we should be too

I think this has been addressed many times on here. In order to survive in the PL, we spent big on both transfer fees and wages and this has left the cupboard empty. Rodrigo's stats suggest that £27 million is a lot for a player that hasn't been prolific and will have little sell on value. Only time will tell if this is sound business or not.

Of course we would love a 30 goal a season striker but we can't afford one so unless you get lucky you need a different strategy. Burnley have 3/4 strikers who each get 10+ goals per season. Ayew fills that roll if Benteke and Wickham could get 10 each problem solved and you are not relying on one player. I would rather play 10-15 million each for 2 average strikers.

Regarding Rodgrigo, this is a guy who doesn't score goals for 27million. 172 la liga appearances and not even 40 goals in return.

As the other posters have just stated. Paying £27 million for Rodrigo is the reason we haven't signed a striker of that Calibre, because that is the type of average rubbish we don’t need to pay £27 million for.

Never mind a 30 goal a season striker, even a 3 goal a season striker would be an improvement on CB

Rodrigo's stats are half as good as Soldado's, and Soldado went to a team with better service. Personally, I think it's a really poor buy typical of those done by Villa and Fulham when promoted in recent seasons. He's played in the PL once, got 1 goal in 17 games, and otherwise has only played for teams who will dominate possession. No sell on value....

Gayle (7 years ago) None of the 1st 3 were cheap and 3 are still at the club. When you sign a player for c£30m and put him on £120k wages that impacts transfers for the next few years
