With two games left of the 200-2001 season manager Smith was axed, resulting in two legendary away wins (2-4 Portsmouth & 0-1 Stockport County) that saved us from relegation. Today ex-owner Jordan explained the decision: "I took a manager out with two games to go when we nearly got relegated at Crystal Palace. "That was for different reasons. That was Alan Smith, I replaced him with Steve Kember. "I fired him with two games to go we were almost relegated because he had lost the dressing room and the players were simply not playing for him and it was proven the next game when we went away and won the next two games."

Not sure what made such a difference but SJ definitely made the correct decision in firing Smithy. Who knows how different things would have been had we lost and gone back down to the third tier? Should we take from these comments that SJ feels that Roy has lost the dressing room?

Should we take from these comments that SJ feels that Roy has lost the dressing room? His comments were made in light of Watford sacking Nigel Pearson with two league games left. He also reminded us Barcelona offered £1.5m for John Bostock!
