The free kick was good, and likely Guiata would not have saved it. But WH's positioning never allowed for that possibility.

Luka's free kick was also good, but the Bournemouth keeper nearly saved it, or at least was within saving distance of the ball. Realistically giving yourself a chance to save a shot is one of the jobs of a keeper.

We really do need a competent reserve keeper.

To get some perspective, WH hasn't played first team football in months.

He then comes in to face far and away the best team in the league.

However, I think we also saw all of his familiar traits. When I saw his chosen starting position for the TAA free kick, I knew it was going in. The soft punch, the header straight to Salah....and of course beaten by a long range shot.

I can't say I was surprised.

To be fair, neither has any PL keeper until last week. But I get your points.

Is it a coincidence that players that are likely to be offloaded in summer played last night ? Hennessy, sakho, meyer, and maybe Townsend and ward .Definitely think first 3 will be gone.

There was nothing wrong with WH's positioning. From that range, the job of the wall is to cover that half of the goal and when a freekick is whipped over over it with pace and right into the corner, you have to put your hands up and admit it was unstoppable and applaud the quality.

There was an interesting half time analysis on the freekick which criticised the wall, which I can agree with (surely a team/tactical error). The man furthest to the right of the wall was Max Meyer i.e. our shortest player. TAA put it straight over his head and into the corner.

It begs the question why were Cahill and Sakho (both 6.2ft+) not in the wall? I appreciate they were marking strikers, but Liverpool were always going to shoot from that position. An extra 8/9 inches of height would have made it more imposing and difficult to score from.
