Apparently Freedman disagreed with Parish over Zaha leaving that season or at the end of it. Thing is Zaha had a say on that anyway with player power in modern football. I get the feeling Freedman might have felt pressure to (actually try) to get promotion that season when Freedman probably didn’t perhaps plan for promotion that season anyway, before we restarted again the next season without Zaha. Of course the money and their setup was miles ahead of us at the time but he seemed to ignore that they were incurring debt fast and that meant he couldn’t sign pricey players there either. All very misjudged. He suddenly found the few vital jigsaw pieces to his 4-2-3-1. But he had a few tough years budget wise at Palace and then had a club that had been in the prem for a decade wanting him. He could have beaten us to 6th place I think if he didn’t draw on the final day of the season, but that was his football. More suitable for a relegation threat in the prem. COYP

I get the feeling Freedman might have felt pressure to (actually try) to get promotion that season when Freedman probably didn’t perhaps plan for promotion that season anyway, before we restarted again the next season without Zaha. During a previous interview DF said the then-Bolton owner: "Done me like a kipper."

He added that he felt terrible driving north to Bolton, but had felt like "King Kong" when dealing with Parish and that he could achieve anything.

DF then confirmed he knew he'd made a terrible mistake leaving CPFC while taking his first Bolton training session.

It's worth remembering, of course, that he took virtually all the coaching staff with him and left Palace in quite a hole albeit, I seem to recall, they got good compensation from Bolton. Anyway, its history now and personally I think he is doing a very decent job in his current role.Equally, it would never surprise me if he was the next Palace manager - despite all the sudden talk about Dyche.

I always assumed he clashed with Parish over tactics. We had started the season with 3 defeats playing turgid football and SP demanded more attacking flair. DF reluctantly agreed but his nose had been put out of joint
