I agree in that we should be operating a proper 14 man system in which players expect that substitutions will be made. But we know that's not really happening.
However, Brighton was very much a one-off. Jairo had to come on for the whole of the second half because of injury to McCarthy. It's usually best to keep one sub up your sleeve for the last few minutes to use up some time or cover unforeseen circumstances (late injury/sending off). It was then a question of should we really change personnel given the intensity of the second half and we know that RH tends to be cautious? and so, if it's not broken don't fix it.

Agree with this

Apart from using up a few seconds no need for subs in that game IMHO

We get a famous victory away at our biggest rivals and you have to criticise the manager - unbelievable.

Townsend has hardly played for the last 3 months, but you would chuck him into a feisty derby game, upset the balance of the team and then probably be the first to moan if that didn't work out.

As for Jimmy Mac, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You are advocating the use of subs for the sake of it on this occasion.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

RH is still reluctant to use subs for some reason. Players looking tired or below par should be replaced and subs should be used to initiate changes in tactics. For example Ayew looked tired towards the end of the game and could have been replaced by Townsend. James McArthur covers every blade of grass on the pitch and should be protected for future games by either being substituted or rested for future games.

Weary players become more susceptible to injury and so do players substituted into the game who lack match fitness.....a double edged sword.

If we lost you may have a point but in this instance we won and that is all that matters.

Managers do it to run the clock down yes, but otherwise you make no sense.

And one could argue that Reidewald looked all over the place when he came on for the first 10/15 mins. So I agree that in this instance that Roy made the correct decisions and we won.
At some point all those that have been quick to criticise Roy this season will have to sit down and eat a huge slice of humble pie.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'German Police and Ultras at the Brighton game.' by bexleydave

Hi everyone. I found this interesting article online. Apparently a load of German Ultras turned up to support BHA last Saturday. Anyone see anything of them?
