You would prefer not to give Roy a new contract or you don't think he's worth 4 million, if indeed that is the figure?

In my opinion if we hadn't got him and Ray we would very likely be in Championship now

No need to replace AWB, we have Joel Ward and Kelly for cover. We need the AWB transfer fees to pay the wages of Benteke, Sakho, Meyer, Wickham and Wilf. & £4m for Roy's new contract next year for his deftness in the transfer market, cultivation of youth and in-game tactical know-how. Enjoy it while you can, like the good folks did at Stoke, and don't upset the apple cart - not welcome.

I like PVA, and it always looks like he loves playing here more than most of our players, so I'm surprised he isn't more popular. He gives sh-t to away fans, he does all the dirty work, he stalls for time when we need it.

Granted, he's not the best defensively, but given how dire our offense is, I'm willing to live with that.

There was a stat that popped up earlier in the season which had PVA as the PLs highest scoring defender over the past 2 years (11 goals). This is invaluable to a team like palace, his pace and willingness to drive forward is also key to how we play. If Jairo continues to improve then we'll have a tricky decision to make as to who plays LB, IMO we're almost at the point that they both need to be in the team. Sure both are a little susceptible positioning wise, but that comes with having a more offensive mindset. And, people state Roy is too ridged and defensive; imagine if we had a Martin Kelly / Wardy type at LB who possibly made less mistakes than PVA / Jairo but didnt drive us forward? Im happy with PVA and hope he stays.

Think it been mentioned before, but we could fit both of them in with PVA pushed into midfield, where he is sure to score even more goals and also help defensively.

I’m sorry but this isn’t just nonsense, it also is completely illogical.

Ferguson is both footed, yes, and he’s played a similar amount of games at left and right back... So I’m really not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion - ... we’re playing with one, currently two, players out of position at full back. Come on

I was a little surprised at the strength of feeling against a simple question. I'm not in any way suggesting that PvA oughtto be sold.

As to whether or not the idea is nonsense and completely illogical, well consider this:
1. Roy stated that he remembers telling Jairo that he was capable of playing LB. It is possible that Roy sees him as a future replacement for PvA
2. Jairo with his MOTM and POTM performances has clearly impressed Palace fans in the LB position. He has imo shown better defensive qualities than PvA (who has been known to go AWOL on more than one occasion). Jairo clearly hasn't got PvA's attacking flair but he does have a promising free kick and is a sharp passer of the ball.
3. Ferguson can be back-up for both LB and RB as you have acknowledged.
4. Fans question the willingness of the club owners to fund transfers out of their own pockets so it's not unreasonable to assume that they might want to sell someone to raise funds for who they want to bring in, especially as there seems to be a move to bringing in young players in this window.
5. We do not know how PvA reacted to the rumour that PSV might be after him. What if, nearing 30, he fancies a return to The Netherlands to see out his career, and to a club he briefly played for in his youth. Bear in mind also that with young children he may want to raise/school them in the Netherlands, especially now that Brexit is happening and the growing negative attitude to "foreigners" in this country.
6. Once he's fit again, Schlupp is also capable of playing at LB if needed.

Having said all that I'm glad Roy has given the exit rumour short shrift in today's briefing, but I would maintain that the idea of letting him go with the arrival of Ferguson is neither nonsense nor illogical.

1. Capable as a fill in yes, actual position, no. Non starter. See Martin Kelly. Should be playing as a DM and pushing Luka for his place. Was excellent against Man City

2. Partly agree but in a contest between the two PVA starts every time in his natural position

3. Yep, but he's being purchased as a right back to replace the square peg that is martin kelly and the ageing stalwart that is Joel Ward

4. It is unreasonable when he is a core member of the starting XI

5. A solid argument, but from what I can see, allegedly from the player, he has no interest in going to PSV. He's also been settled in the UK for a considerable amount of time now and will be earning way more here in a far better league. He's not 35

6. Schlupp is not a natural LB, and when he plays there, it shows. Square peg.

The only remote possibility of such a core player as PVA being sold in this window is if we bring in the Norwich left back. Even then it simply does not make any sporting or business sense. Sorry

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

Agreed. Best one we've had in my lifetime. Maybe as good as Dean Gordon with a tad less consistency.

As some have said, Schlupp could drop in there if need be.

It’s weird isn’t it... Dean Gordon was in my opinion one of the first modern day full backs... Not great defensively but superb going forward and my god what a left foot that man had!!

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
