Exactly this, Wilf had their back 4 on toast for our second, good to see Connor getting in the right positions for when the crosses are flying in.

Man City forum - Blue Moon... Fans were asking why wasn’t Wilf hacked down leading up to his cross which lead to the equaliser? Seems to be a general consensus that Wilf should openly and continually get kicked up in the air...

Look at the Stones challenge on him. Stones made no attempt to get the ball and literally shoved him over in the box...

I feel the reason a pen wasnt given was because it looked as though zaha threw his leg out in front of stones as stones made the challenge, zaha was looking for the foul and stones intent on just stopping him, neither were looking to get the ball but zaha throwing his leg across first may have swayed the decision against us. Just my opinion

Not just their fans. Guardiola had this to say:

'the second goal is a mistake and we have to avoid it. It is not possible Zaha can run and we allow it.'

And this:

'it was a decision. It was a wrong decision and we are going to solve it and improve it. In this situation we cannot let them run in this counterattack.'

Short of saying 'hack him down before he gets in the box' I don't think that could be any clearer.

I don't see how else they would stop him to be fair, annoying for us frustrating for zaha but necessary for every other team

Maybe so but City are notorious for using professional fouls to 'break up play' and clearly it is something that is coached into them. The answer lies in firmer refereeing.

Spot on.
City aren't used to defending in their own penalty area. They are used to getting the ball back somewhere in the opponents' half, often by several of their players converging on the opponent with the ball and committing little niggly fouls which often don't get picked up. if an opponent gets too close to the halfway line or into the City half, the usual practice seems to be to hack them down and take one for the team.

What on earth is "fair" about hacking down a player?

Hacking down should immediately be punished with a yellow - or red - card.

It hopefully leaves him thinking hard about not making stupid f@cking tackles and having unnecessary afters with players which get you sent off.

As our captain he should be leading more by example.

This may make him sit up and realise that if he keeps picking up cards then he could become a squad player.

Good player Luca, but in my option he’s no better or worse than the lads who played today.

Terrific result.

Yes, temperamental he is and in a position where you definitely do not want a temperamental to be, much much better without.
