Didn't RH recommend Sorloth? But you are correct, at the end of the day it is the chairman who puts pen to paper to seal a deal. One can question whether he is best informed given the calibre of those working beside him.

Mr Hodgson can do all the talking and advising until his eyes pop out but it takes the team as a collective on the pitch to work as a unit to get results and it'll only take one of them to make a silly mistake for everyone on here to complain and shout for him to go and that he is the worst manager in the world. Sorloth was a bad gamble, AWB was a good one we are a club that has to rely on gambles lol

That may be because the "collective" are following his instructions, which lead to a tactical deployment of an unbalanced style of play which strongly favours defence over offence, the result being we have a poor goal scoring record. I believe the balance needs to be readdressed. If anything RH is getting more negative.

Also, as has already been pointed out on another thread, being so defensive invites pressure which, in turn, leads to mistakes, plus we can't win if we don't score.

The pure fact that Kouyate, Schlupp, van Aanholt and Milivojevic struggle to pass consistently to each other moving forward and backwards says something else sadly ..look I also wish for what you desire but I cannot see the squad we have at the moment being able to do it, that is all ..you do I don't, I could be proved wrong, I would love to be proved wrong lol

The players I've mentioned are good players for us though I'm not suggesting they're hopeless, they are just consistently problematic against the better teams of this division, teams that we will never really ever compete against.

Benteke - £30 million, £120k p/w wages.
Jach - £2.5 million, 20k p/w wages.

This sort of waste, along with the fact that we almost never sell anyone for a profit, will leave most clubs in a sticky financial situation.

There in lies your answer ...

horrific waste of money

most of those should be on 1k per week

I would not say Palace are strapped for cash. Probably the wealthiest it has ever been but....While the first team squad are most important the club need to spend on players within the boundaries of affordability. Plus there are other areas that are in huge desperate need of investment. You mentioned the stadium yourself, its well over 100m just for a new main stand and that's once it finally gets the go ahead.
If you refuse to be ripped off its not actually lack of money that's the problem, its lack of value for money.

78 Percent of our turnover goes on wages. Only Everton are equivalent. Hope that helps you.

And as someone pointed out elsewhere, we are many years into this premier league stint, yet still have a Championship standard stadium, training facilities and scouting network.

Our income mostly goes towards paying an aging squad.

Few of our signings seem to hit the first 11.

We sold our youngest first team player and replaced him with his predecessor, himself now 18 months older.

Stoke, Swansea, Wigan and others were well-established and dropped out the league without much warning. A decline can happen very suddenly.

My worry is that if/when we are relegated, we will have nothing to show for the experience. What legacy have we put in since promotion?

What frustrates me is there are (and have been) Championship players that represented lesser risk that we never seem to even look at.
