The idea that AWB fluked his way into the first team and Roy "was forced" to take a chance on him is really funny. Most young players get their chance when a senior player gets injured. Bear in mind Roy had been at the club about 6 mths at the time and he didn't feature in de Boer's total football revolution.

Also, AWB had made the bench as long ago as under Allardyce and played in the Asia Trophy under De Boer. He was always extremely highly rated. Most players who play for the first team have played several seasons of U23 football (see also: Woods and Dreher), AWB had been around that environment and the first team environment for a few years before he debuted. The idea that he came from absolutely nowhere is wrong.

Sounds obvious, too, but there are 19 other Premier League clubs - mostly with category one academies - also trying to loan out players. And that's not even factoring in the Championship clubs who want to send players out. Shaw also thinks there are players who benefit more from training with the first team rather than being out on loan. There is far more to it than just 'why don't we all just send them out on loan' Edited by smitherscpfc (21 Sep 2019 11.34am)
