I keep thinking about doing it, I'm almost certain I had it with my bank. Which company did you use?

Please do not use these PPI firms. They are a bunch of money grabbing leaches. Its your money and you should keep all of it. It is very easy to submit a PPI claim yourself direct to the bank you may save yourself thousands. Mate of mine paid them £2000 when he told me I was furious, at the time I worked in a bank and would have done it for him for free. The link below is for Martin Lewis' Money Saving Experts website. He appears to be a good guy who is often in the media with his campaigns. There are also other folks out there who will also offer independent free advice. To claim PPI it is a simple form. Anyway look for the PPI Reclaiming tools link and good luck.

^^^^^^ Seconded. One phone call to the credit card company saying 'i wish to make a complaint about ppi', then there will be a few sent forms to fill in and 'bingo!' - Do not use a PPI firm. It is literally less than hour of your time and their's to do.

Some of my credit cards are from 15 years ago and I don't have any paperwork. I also can't remember all the companies I've had credit cards with. A credit check only covers the last 6 years doesn't it? I'm sure I used to have PPI on most of the cards I've had but I'll be buggered if I can remember them all.

Doesn't matter, I didn't need to provide details as the banks held all the information and are legally obliged to use it. I got about 7k back in total stretching back to 2000 on credit cards loans etc - including one I didn't remember. Of course it feels like 'free money' but its technically your own money.

my old man got back 35k on past mortgages and the odd barely used credit card , I think he walked away with 29k after deductions . He would never of done the work to investigate himself so was happy to hand over a percentage of what he never realised he had !?

PPI deadline is 29th August 2019 This is not like arguing with your insurance company about a claim. Assuming you did have PPI the bank has a formula agreed with the regulator. In other words this is now a process for the banks they will not challenge you with lawyers etc. unless of course you didn't have PPI.

I've been thinking about putting in a PPI claim for some time, and went as far as getting all the paperwork from one or two companies but was put off by the sizeable fee they were demanding. I knew it could be done for free but wasn't sure how to go about claiming on my own. A woman I used to work with a few years ago received £14k back. Not sure which company sue used, but many people like her are often surprised at how much money they can claim in mis-sold PPI. According to the FCA website, the deadline for PPI claims is 29 August 2019.
