On a personal note(I hope you don't mind) a pal of mine, who is only 31 and a fantastic guitarist and all-round-top-bloke,is gravely ill in hospital with possibly a day maybe two then that's his lot. So here's my personal tribute to Rhys playing with Zeus. [Link] Gonna miss you Rhys! RIP Tom. Ollie's Dad,Ash. [Link] An update on my pal Rhys. He sadly passed away yesterday afternoon in the sunshine whilst in the garden at Medway Hospital. RIP (Riff In Peace)Rhys. Edited by OllieMaidstoneEagle (04 Oct 2017 8.26pm) .

I don't think McGuinn knew Petty before he heard the song on the radio; he certainly didn't cover it til months after the 1st TP & Heartbreakers album was released. However, TPs American Girl is very much in the McGuinn style, and McGuinn's version is very good too! Pettys cover of feel a whole lot better is very good

I appreciate the thread is about Petty's tragic death but since the Byrds and a solo effort by McGuinn have cropped up,can I also take the opportunity to plug some of the great post-Byrds work of two other original members,Gene Cark (the writer of Feel A Whole Lot Better)and Chris Hillman Edited by legaleagle (04 Oct 2017 10.55pm)

It may be the story I heard was wrong..all those years ago or I've misremembered it.Whether that would be due to excesses then or defects now or both,I'm not sure! Have to say I didn't really like his stuff that much, although I do like many of the artistes categorised with him.
