Yes, and my Dad - who was a Met policeman - told me that anyone could hold a Dutch Auction in the UK but to run a traditional auction required a licence. I don't know if that was true, and if so, whether things are now different (e.g. every school runs an 'Auction of Promises' at some point, presumably without an auctioneer's licence.)

Anyway......Dutch Courage. Certainly what I used when I first met the missus all those years ago and definitely what's needed to watch the Palace right now!

can't believe I forgot Dutch courage, still needed in various dealings with one's better half, esp as the years pass
