I did a 3-year counselling training (1 year certificate, 2 year PgDip) in my late 30's while working 3 days pw and looking after my 2 kids. It was hard at times juggling everything but had support with childcare from family & friends and, because I really wanted to do it, found a way through and passed with a merit.

It's tough but if you really want it you'll manage. I look back on it now and wonder how I got through it but it was very well worth all the hassle.

Go for it and good luck!

It's a shame OU's prices went through the roof in line with bricks and mortar universities. It would be nice to have a reasonably fairly priced opportunity to work towards a degree.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the financial outlay?

I don't mind at all. It was a while ago but if memory serves it was something in the region of £4/£5k all told over the 3 years.

However, for various reasons we ended up taking out a complaint against the university and won compensation which paid for the course with a bit left over which was a bit of a result
