After getting completely battered from all sides on the BB^ you come running back here with tail between legs.

Even the "lefties" don't like you on there.

One of the many nuances of the left that I do not understand is why they hate each other with such intensity.

Momentum hate Blairites, Maoists hate Trots, Eurocommunists hate Stalinists, SWP appear to hate everyone, the list goes on.

If they are so much in favour of fraternity, why do they squabble so much between themselves?

As much as the Tories like a good civil war, look at the way they reconvened after the Referendum compared to Labour.

When it lacks any real factual content, given that there are plenty of white areas that aren't any safer either.

It isn't just 'the darkies' who are criminals.

Sectarianism is a very popular past time in left wing circles. It has its origins in different 'Marxist movements and theoriests'.

Although this seems to have been dying down somewhat... You've never seen an argument over tiny points of detail, than you'll see between SWP, The Socialist Party and the Communist Party of Great Britain.

Dialectics and the history of the Communist party probably has a lot to do with it.

Hypocrite.

You yourself have on many occasions pointed out that areas populated with high a percentage of black youths due to low employment, lack of options etc etc turn to crime in order to get what they want.

This advert was (albeit a bit to sweeping for my liking) merely pointing out that some areas, due to the reasons you yourself have gone to some pains to point out, and because of the social demography in that particular area, are better off avoided.

Or do you want me to produce statistics on black youth crime in London involving stabbings ?

It might not fit into your liberal view of the world Jamie, but you and I both know there are parts of London not to venture into at night, unless you want a six inch blade shoved in your belly, and in all likely hood, the perpetrator will be of ethnic origin.

So whilst "fact" MAY be a bit misleading, the comment is most certainly based in fact, minimum. It's just a statement that doesn't fit in with your view point.

The idea that Tax is a socialist principle is incorrect. The state collection of taxation is seen as a necessity of provision of public services and funding - and in theory driven by budgetary necessity.

I said "tax, tax, tax." And large government, public sector, is paid for with large taxes. That is socialism. Certainly what Labour did under Blair and what the Tories have rightly reduced.

What the advert is saying is effectively that you'll be safe if you avoid areas with non-white and non-oriental population. Its a simplification based on race that's actually bad advice.

I agree that certain areas and demographics are more representative in crime statistics, and that in particular poverty is a major factor.

I wouldn't say however that you're safer wandering around Bermondsey as a Chinese tourist than Thornton Heath, and that's the real issue with it. By couching safety in terms of race, its actually putting tourists in to a unsafe assumption.

I definitely would advise tourists to avoid areas, but to couch it in terms of 'racial density' isn't going to really keep people safer.

Also not a socialist.

Large government and public sector, paid by taxes, isn't necessarily socialist. Socialism is really at its core the rejection of capitalism and the power of capital. Plenty of countries have high public services and taxes without being explicitly socialist.

Raising and using taxes to combat social problems isn't socialist. Liberals, Conservatives and republicans have done this in the past (in fact one of the stand out achievements of Republicanism was its government funded construction programs, paid by tax, during the 50s and 60s that massively improved US road and interstate infrastructure.

Its become a very new Republican idealism that anything that is 'large government' is by default socialist. Like with the idea of Universal Health care, irrespective of its cost efficiency.

Many of the great US achievements, under this mentality, would be socialist. Such as the Space Program and US Military-Industry (which is entirely tax funded, and effectively subsidises third party company defence contractors that entirely are dependent on that funding).
