Anyone a fan of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club? If so what's your favourite song?

Favourite album is "Baby 81". Tough to pull a favourite song from this band...maybe "Love Burns".

Just in case you weren't aware, there's a tangential link between BRMC and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, through Matt Hollywood - he was part of the ever-changing line-up of the BJM and worked with Spike Keating of BRMC (and Eric Hedford of the Dandy Warhols) in Magic Fingers.

As to the BJM and the Dandys - if you haven't watched "Dig!" at least once, you're sorely missing out on a rockumentary that proves truth is stranger than (Spinal Tap's) fiction.

The whole thing's on YouTube. Here's the trailer:

Dig! is easily my favourite rock documentary - Its like watching the BJM car crash. They make the rather slacker Dandies look like they invented the concept of a work ethic.

Anton Newcombe proves that the line between genius and madness can be snorted.

I tell fans of the Dandies to watch it at their peril, because Courtney Taylor comes off as an arrogant, entitled, cry-baby. The funniest theme of it, for me, is that Anton decided to create a Blur-Oasis-type rivalry with the Dandies, didn't tell them he was doing so, and thus terrified them by stalking them and messing with their s***.

I have watched Dig! multiple times. I've seen the BJM live, and they're great. Anton held his s*** together too, which meant I got to see an entire gig, but part of me was just a little disappointed...

I like Howl too but, given my location, country is one of the major musical genres down here (the other, of course, being "western"). As such, rock-laden country music is not so unusual - even though the BRMC did a phenomenal job of their take on it.

I always assumed this would be the case, when I read his name was Courtney Taylor-Taylor. The thing with the rivalry sums up Anton and BJM problems in a nutshell - The bloke whilst talented, is a walking collection of problems held together by a serious drug problem.

The rest of the Dandies come off as the reason why they were successful, Courtney is clearly very talented, but the rest of the band seem to have a lot of the focus that makes it all work.

Where as the Dandy's do seem to realise that they have to actually work in between parties, the BJM are essentially locked into what appears to be a one upmanship of f**king up.

No disagreement here.

Untilately, the thing that separated the Dandies and BJM was a UK cell phone commercial. I.e. pure dumb luck.

They did have some success before that. Come Down is a great album, and it has some stand out hits (Boys Better, Not if you were the Last Junky etc) that got a lot of UK airplay and were big indie club hits - and they toured it a lot around Europe and the world.

I think they got the message, after their first album (which is poor) and one scrapped album, that if they didn't put the work in, they'd have to get real jobs.

But certainly, they went stratospheric on the basis of a Phone commercial and a knock off Rolling Stones riff...
