My favourite beach is Perranporth....... lovely sandy beach and great pub/restaurant right on the beach itself!

St Ives is a great town, loads of shops and places to eat. If you want to go there go to St Erth Train Station near Hayle, park your car and get the train to St Ives.... the view as you go along the coast is breathtaking...makes more of a day of it.

St Michael's Mount/Marazion is good and worthy of a day trip walking to the castle at low tide.

Mullion Cove, and others on the Lizard peninsular (as others have suggested) are real beauty spots with exclusive sandy beaches... but not much else there if the kids get bored/hungry.

As a left field idea, if you like trains and views, take a return trip from Gunnislake to Plymouth on an out of hours train. Goes slowly through the countryside and over Calstock viaduct. Walk to Plymouth Hoe for views across the sound. Then get back out again. Not a pretty place is Plymouth ( like Yeovil ).
