In my scenario no where does it state the Arab world have suddenly become humanist liberals. That my dear old friend was avoidance in all its wonderful (if not a little obvious) glory. The bit about humanitarianism applies still. Just because a regime is oppressive, doesn't mean we shouldn't offer succor to its victims, on the basis that regime would not offer the same to us. The point of opposition to oppression, is to be humanitarian. I also think we should cut immigration (its why I voted out - EU Migration is for profitability), but asylum and refugee cannot be part of that. 250k increase in population from the EU freedom of movement a year is the problem. In terms of asylum, successful claims are about 10% of the UK emigration each year. We can live with that. What we can't live with is increasing our population in urban areas, with already high population density by 250,000 plus per year.

Just a few cases I have had personal experience of in education may prove quite illuminating. I was speaking to a Lebanese Muslim who came over on a holiday visa and found himself talked into claiming asylum - he has full status now. He said 'I may as well have British citizenship as I can now do what I like and claim benefits'.
