I don't blame them, they've done exceptionally well. The issue really is more with the people who tell me their the greatest band ever, and have all their albums / merchandise go to ever Kiss Con and what not... There is nothing wrong with Kiss, same with Alice Cooper, its the slavish worship. I love 70s Alice, but the 80s and 90s are just embarrassing.

Kiss transcend music and appeal as an entity with the image and stage show etc. Their fans are unlike most other groups for that reason. I think the 80's were a very sticky patch for a lot of 60's, 70's artists because new technology made the guitar sound old fashioned for a period. Some dabbled with synth and disco with mixed results while the rock scene was mainly raw new British metal bands and American West Coast hair bands. It was a difficult landscape for the old guard to fit into.
