I have no problem with meat eating, nor with shooting vermin like foxes. But I don't see why people need to ride round the country to watch a pack of dogs tear an animal to pieces. We banned bear baiting, due to its being inhumane. I don't see fox hunting as being that different. That being said, Jamie has a point as the line is arbitrary. Ta. Got you. Though I would say context is everything when comparing identical sorts of crimes when it comes to judging the perpetrators. And only some foxes are actually 'vermin'. It doesn't/shouldn't give anyone the right to kill those that are not.

At the end of the day, killing animals for "sport" is unacceptable. I cannot grasp the mind of someone who gains pleasure form such activity. Equally causing unnecessary suffering to animals for any reason is deplorable.

Well as a couple of posters on here know.....squaddies are a tough old bunch,my boy just laughs at them, but then he is a big b******....and your second point,i would think someone has said something some time, but as i said it doesnt fit the agenda. Couple of years back I turned up for armed forces day in uniform (with a couple of friends through supporting Palace, who were also services), I was in my two's (smart uniform), the advertiser was there at the pub who were holding the Armed Forces Day. Took some nice photo's, grid in the paper etc etc, however one of the lads in the navy got eggs thrown at him whilst he walking to the pub, and some black geezer got out of his car and called me a baby killer !?? Now Im not a small bloke and replied " I have never killed a non combatant....yet." at which point he f***ed off. Did I report it as a hate crime ...no, and you know why, the bloke from the advertiser said he wouldnt print the story, "cause to much grief" was his exact words.

Eating other sentient beings is just nature. But what I find e-vil-e is not treating the animal well in its time on earth before the axe falls. Two whole chickens for a fiver? You just know the poor sods have had to endure Fowlschwitz before hitting the shelves at Tesco. That's a selective view of nature. The difference for humans, is that there is no actual need to eat other sentient beings, because we've developed a capacity to escape that necessity. The example of humanity is that its in conflict with nature, but has redefined its own nature and environment to achieve this. Look around your life, and question how much is actually in parallel to nature and feral existence. Not much. The idea that something is in our nature is something we say to justify something that is unethical. And even in nature, primates don't eat that much meat anyhow, they supplement their diet with meat. We're Omnivores, and there are very few true carnivores in nature. Chimps for example, mostly eat berries, shoots, leaves along with the occasional meat (usually monkeys). If we were natural we wouldn't be cooking the meat either.
