Phillipino President - another Liberal namby pamby

Well, President elect actually, according to Sky News (I can't do links so someone else may be able to? Rodrigo Dutente, soon to be President of the Phillipines, "says the fish in Manila Bay will grow fat from feeding on the bodies of dead criminals." Furthermore, he wants criminals hanged twice if they commit more than one crime and has promised military snipers will shoot any trying to resist arrest. What a namby pamby green-leaning Corbynista. Bet the fisherman in Manila Bay are excited though.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Not very Liberal at all, would solve over crowding in jails too. Doubt it will catch on here sadly

Dutente by his own admission, as Mayor, set up and conspired with death squads, that result at least 1000 murders in the capital (his claim is 1700). Its like the solution for organised crime in Thailand, to simply make the state militant arms the organised crime. Basically Thailand coup largely saw control of the lucrative drug trade taken over by the army - Something it had begun on the borders in the previous decade by controlling the heroin routes out of the Golden Triangle.

Short term, but what happens every time is that the people your using to kill all the criminals (the police and army death squad), end up becoming the new Gang leaders. The difference, of course is they are better armed, organised and connected to government, which will now become the traffickers and gangsters. It debatably how much better this actually is. It might reduce the chaos, but its usually only reducing crime by effectively legalising a large part of it so that murder of 'criminals' isn't counted as murder. Its the tactic he used as a mayor, that he brags about, reducing murders in the city, because the police death squads simply don't record statistically as a murder or crime.

Little bit like Animal Farm when you think about, where the pigs effectively take over where the humans left off.
