Is this another misused instrument of justice and equality or are universities a breeding ground for far-left fascists?

I'm obviously a bit late here as I'd barely even heard the term but South Park have already done a Safe Space episode. A show which also educated me on the term cis-gender which even my more liberal friends were unaware of. It's like parallel universe exists in unis for the sole purpose focusing on other peoples rights as a facade for ignorance and belligerence.

Obviously I object to the term far left fascists, as its a contradiction. They're more akin to the Communist party (using the technicalities of law to silence opposition).

The idea of safe space, is fine - it supports the notion of freedom of speech and creates environments in which debate can be separated from intimidation and fear - the principle of determining who has access to free speech is worrying as well as utilising the mechanics of rules in order to exclude people.

In my experience of University, the 'far left' were a joke, and people who were actually interested in Marxism avoided student groups asap and got involved with the leftist groups off campus. Although I did drive the women's bus on several occasions when there were no female drivers available.

The term 'left wing fascist' has a basis in recent(ish) politics and should not be dismissed.

Groups such as the RAF and the Red Brigades took inspiration from both far left and far right politics but were generally more leaning to right.

Also, it is sometimes very hard to distinguish between the far left and far right when they actually gain power. People get repressed and killed. North Korea, is it communist or fascist? It ain't very progressive, so take yer pick.

True that. Although sometimes interesting stuff comes out, usually its more about righteousness than being right and protests. Protests are generally quite good fun when the NUS arranges the travel.

Usually because those ones are the c**ts who aren't attending lectures and seminars. There was always a tendency for people to be angry about something in the past, rather than the present, because that's usually what 'radicalises' you - because its usually something that's 'finally come to light' recently.

You didn't tend to see many student protestors down the local factory that was closing, siding with the Union protests, but you could be certain that if someone was gibing a lecture on empire, that they'd be out in force protesting, even if the lecture was critical of empire, they'd always be someone who would be proclaiming it wasn't critical enough.

There is always, in student political, circles, that one person. It was also my Sociology tutor (he was a postgrad) a total bullying c**t to his class. I used to annoy him by shouting out the answers when ever he started to pick on my class mates.

Used to always turn up wearing his Palestinian neck scarf thing, and he knew about as about the subject as his students, which given it was an 'Introduction to Sociology', was unforgivable. F**ker would try to get people to break down in tears and never come back (all but two of the class we female).

Admittedly I was a bit like that, it was older issues that 'fired me into a lefty' but I never saw the point of protesting something that wasn't relevant to current events.
