If the lever is lose that means that the motor has moved to the 'on' position. However if it is not turning the pump and boiler on it sounds like the valve isn't hitting the microswitch... Turn off the mains power before attempting anything. Take off the top of the valve and you will see the motor which is held in by one (tiny) screw. Undo that and cut the two wires attaching it to the valve. The new motor will have two wire connectors so you can then twist the wiring back together. Put the motor in position, screw it in place and that's that. I'd that doesn't work, it could be the whole valve head. Without sounding too precious... Please be careful

Hold the front page! I may be about to be helpful. I had a similar problem where my central heating wouldn't turn off. I needed to replace the top bit of the valve: [Link] You should have 2 of these in your airing cupboard (providing you don't have a combi boiler) - one controls the heating the other the hot water. You can replace the top part only without needing to do any plumbing (although it does have about 7 wires that you'll need to connect) My nephew on here (Eddie_Hitler) may log on for the first time in 10 years and be of help - he talked me through analyzing my issue and I managed to replace it myself. PS: Turn the power off before you attempt to replace it. But if you don't can I have your semi-final ticket? Be honest Pikey - did you just watch the video I posted up earlier in the thread? The bloke on that video said pretty much what you've just said. .... or... are you that bloke on the video... Baldy!

I'm unable to watch videos on the internet software we have in the office - so if that bloke is saying the same as me then there's 2 possible scenarios: And I still have all of my own hair thanks!* * - in a box under the bed.
You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name. |

I'll opt for ( a ) then. Seriously.... the OP has thanked everyone on here personally but me and I gave him the right answer in an easy to follow video pretty much minutes after he asked for help.

Thanks. Do you know whether a faulty motorised valve would stop the boiler from firing-up on 'water only' ? Cheers all who have answered. Sorry for not replying sooner. The answer is yes as the synchro (the little motor bit on top) does turn the valve which tells the boiler to start. As others have said you can manually move the valve with the little Lever on the side. This should force the boiler to fire. Make sure you turn the power off before disconnecting the motor. The new one will have two wires which you will need to connect to the old ones the wires are very thin. use a small terminal block or wire connectors. To find out which is which turn just the heating on and see which pipe gets hot as a guess the one near your cylinder is your hot water but it could be either. Good luck
