It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Cost is too high so a no from me and comparing the cost of care to the vaccine is stupid look at the stats the number for death/treatment is very low so it ouldn't be near the full cost of giving this to every child plus it comes from a different fund.

People should be chasing the pharm companies that produce this stuff they are criminals and could easily allow this to be cheap but don't want to and you wil find the nhs does not get good prices for vaccines/drugs.

I agree that the financing of drug research needs a real overhaul - signed, 816,968

The NHS is by far and away the largest purchaser of drugs in the UK. In fact quite possibly the largest single buyer globally! Given this they should be in a position to negotiate the best possible deals with the drug companies. if they paying too much it suggests a lack of professionalism in the buying negotiators. Need to employee some from the big supermarkets - they know how to really screw suppliers!

In defence of the drug companies you can understand them holding out for the best price possible. All the while they are listed companies with shareholders to keep happy (including many of our pension providers) they have a legal duty to do so.

On top of this they have a finite window of exclusivity before they have to share data on the drug (roughly ten years) so they need to recoup their investment and provide a return to shareholders.

Not saying I agree that morally it is the right thing to do but at least there is a programme now being rolled out.

The other point that is frequently missed is that pharmaceutical research is just so staggeringly expensive; not just in terms of materials, staff etc. but in that, for every drug that makes it to market they also have to cover R & D costs on potentially hundreds of others that simply don't work once they reach human trials!
