I think the mental health issues are more worrying than someone's age. He's physically as fit as opponents much younger than him, but if you don't know when to stop getting punched in the head then it's gonna do even more damage. His mental health problems don't seem to be organic in origin. There is a question of medications etc. I think though the Boxing Board could do him a favour and not issue a licence.

It could do Jamie. What about if he suddenly believed he was Lord Nelson at the start of round 3? Disastrous. No right hook. Maybe that's what happened in the fight against Tyson, where in it seemed that he'd actually forgotten he was in a competitive match.

Just surprised? Frank is still ripped but that don't mean s***. A 55 year old with a history of mental problems and you would just be surprised? It would be a disgrace to the sport. If he want to be in boxing then he should be a trainer. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (01 Feb 2016 3.42pm) Agree with Hrolf totally. BUT,...Foreman boxed his last fight at 48 (I think). Bruno is ripped at the moment, so he's obviously spent many months doing the prep work. Hoping that being 54 , and having a history of mental episodes will force him into mentoring, or some other useful paid role in the sport

Frank Bruno and DanH seem to share a few similarities, not least that they've both been battered in the ring.

Yes he's lean and fit for a former sportsman of his age but the strength, speed, timing and endurance of a 50-odd-year-old are going to be far inferior to men in their prime in the boxing game. Let alone his major organs. Like someone else said by all means stay close to boxing - training, coaching, whatever - but the sport needs to have a long look at itself if they issue a license as it might be as good as signing a death warrant. Bruno needs a few sessions on the Dr's couch to figure out what he is trying to achieve by all this, and then help finding another route to answering the question. Because he is. He ran a marathon a few years ago in about 4 hours and he's not exactly a distance runner's build. I didn't say he'd have the speed, strength or timing just that he is physically fit. Opposed to say when Foreman came back and was just a fat lump.
