In 1976 Bowie said: “Britain is ready for a fascist leader ... I think Britain could benefit from a fascist leader. After all, fascism is really nationalism ... I believe very strongly in fascism, people have always responded with greater efficiency under a regimental leadership”

Also in 1976, another singer of popular music, who will also monopolise the news broadcasts of the right-on BBC, if he dies, Eric Clapton, said: "The black w*** and c**** and Arabs and f***ing Jamaicans don’t belong here, we don’t want them here. This is England, this is a white country, we don’t want any black w*** and c**** living here. We need to make clear to them they are not welcome. England is for white people, man. We are a white country. I don’t want f***ing w*** living next to me with their standards. This is Great Britain, a white country, what is happening to us, for f***’s sake? We need to vote for Enoch Powell, he’s a great man, speaking truth.

If someone who is not a hero of modern 'culture' said these things imagine the reaction from the very same people who are churning out the tributes.

He retracted those remarks pretty quickly if I remember rightly. Drugs make people do and say pretty stupid things sometimes.

In fact he called out MTV live on air once for not playing enough black artists.

And he married a black women. Which is a bit of a giveaway.

I'm going to be unpopular here, but I don't care to be honest.

I was never a fan while he was alive and am not one (sycophantic or otherwise) now he's dead. Never really took to his music or imagery, was more into Paul Weller and the like as I grew up, then massivley into indie and dance music in the late eighties and 90's.

For me whilst he may have been ground breaking etc etc I thought he sounded like a badger straining a s***.

However clearly a massive musical influence for some, just not for me.

With respect, wrong place, wrong time. Would you walk into a pub as it hosts a wake for a bloke and say - never liked him, but i will have a beer if one is going??

With respect ,,, You didnt know Bowie personnely, nor did I, I'm just not a fawning flower dropper.

And if I walked into a pub having a wake for bloke I didnt know, I would continue to have MY pint as per Normal.

Touchy little soul aren't we.

How's that touchy? Anyways, you got what ya wanted, a little bit of attention derailing a thread on a forum asking about favourite tracks of someone you don't like, well done, impressive.

This was once a quality forum....

As with most Bowie fans, songs have been whirring around in my head and on my ipod all week. Even though I have posted a couple of personal favourites already, going way back, I love 'An Occasional Dream' from the fist album. It takes me back to when I was a care free boy.
