Labour politicians and supporters are up in arms about Lynton Crosby's knighthood - this is the guy that masterminded the Tories stunning election victory last May.

Labour supporters have short memories as I seem to recall Harold Wilson giving a peerageto his buddy and raincoat manufacturer and most people of a certain age remember Lord Gannex

Exactly.

Blair and Brown dished a load of honours to their "comrades" too.... not to mention lucrative government contracts.

It's what all politicians do FFS.

Whole thing is outdated and embarrassing. Any honour that still refers to 'empire' is farcical. Just gongs for those intent on climbing up the greasy pole. I've got much more admiration for all those who turn down these sad little ego boosting trinkets. Time we moved on as country and stopped making time-servers into Sir Arse Creep or Lord Brown Nose. Pathetic.

Barbara Windsor made a Dame.. With all due respect what for??

Starred in the Carry on Films which lets face it didn't take the greatest acting skills to play her part.

Then starred in Eastenders for years which if I'm honest showed her up for the poor actress she is is..

Who decides these honours??

Her biggest claim to fame is screwing the Kray brothers

Touch my coffee and I will slap you so hard even Google won't be able to find you.

As far as I'm concerned he deserves it.... because otherwise we might have had the Chuckle Brothers, Ed Miliband and Ed Balls running the country! Imagine that?

What about a knighthood for the bloke who nominated Jeremy Corbyn as a candidate for Labour leader thereby ensuring the Tories remain in power beyond 2020 - surely that deserves an award for services to politics?

Smashing ! Had to laugh.
I will be raising a glass to him !

I'm trying to work out how Lin Homer managed to "earn" herself a Damehood.

This. I'm in favour of showing thanks, as a country, to those that go above and beyond (so voluntary workers, charity campaigners etc), but the medals and titles is archaic. (Not sure how else we could show this appreciation but I'm pretty sure that your average voluntary worker would prefer proper funded and recognisable support, from the state, rather than a medal). However, Barbara Windsor as a Dame because she's a 'national treasure' and some of these knighthoods for politicians is just ridiculous. And ALL parties do it. Blair rewarded his brown nosers just as Cameron is doing now. It is, however, a brilliant eye opening way to simply shine a spotlight on just how serve serving many of our politicians are and, if anyone were ever in any doubt that politicians are in it for themselves, this acts as a clear window into their world.

Definitely deserved then. He doesn't happen to have a spare ten minutes where he could cull a few of these politicos for us?

No, just thought he might.

My wife was awarded an MBE some years ago and I must admit enjoying going to the Palace (Buckingham) with her. It was a reciprocal arrangement as she frequently came to the Palace (Crystal) with me in the good ol days when it was easier to get tickets.

It was not unpleasant to see a very attractive Catherine Zeta Jones getting her CBE with hubby and children. However, although an outdated system the vast majority of 100 or so awards on the day were given to people whom I would consider were deserving.

If it has to be replaced by something I would advocate an official firing squad in the Palace grounds for politicians, City bankers and various low achievers.
