Given that being poor and ugly are relative judgements, suicide seems a bit of an over reaction, when you could just move up north. I went to Hull once, and I swear I was the only person who actually had thumbs.

Her caring daughters, who tried to essentially were trying to force medical treatment against her will (effectively a section order). Whilst I don't necessarily agree with the patient and her suicide attempt, I can understand why someone who is facing their rest of their life on dialysis might prefer to die. That is, and should always be, their decision alone (not the doctors, health authorities, relatives or any other interested parties business). Death will come for us all, eventually, I would rather it was on my terms, than anyone else's. Watching my mother die, the biggest disgust for me, was having to watch her slowly drown, sedated and medicated to the point of just being an autonomic husk, like somekind of meat spectacle for people to come and watch, and make small talk over. Let alone the year of increasing pain, loss of self dignity and disability to what was a proud, gentle and independent woman, which preceded that.
