Have only just heard the news. Am genuinely gutted.
Another part of my youth has just disappeared.
Minder was truly one of a kind, I still watch it now even though is hasn’t aged well. In many ways the fact the show appears dated is partially due to how realistic the programme was. Minder was truly a snap shot of working class London in the late 70s/80s. A London before foreign exchange students and cappuccino bars took over.
Damn I miss the old days.
God rest your soul George - from one old Tooting boy to another.

Been watching old Madness films and documentaries and stuff about the Oi! Music scene last night and looking at the images it could be another city entirely but no it is the London of the late seventies.

So much change from then and so much fighting back then too. I'd almost forgotten how going to a gig was just as dangerous as going into the home end at other London football grounds.

Of course you are right Kermit. My memory is selective and it certainly wasn’t all better back then. I remember the trains being vandalised, phone boxes not working, etc. etc.
It’s just I guess if you compared most places in the UK to how they were 30+ years ago you would find a lot of change, however London has become almost unrecognisable and I guess I just miss it.
When home does not feel like home anymore then where the heck is?

It has changed and not for the better. The 70's and 80's were great.

Just a little bit of info, minder was only created because ITV had Dennis Waterman on a long contract and they had nothing to do with him for a year after The Sweeney finished, so they got a team of writers etc to rush through something to fill the gap,,,,,,little did they know the legendary show and characters they were creating

Dead.

Saw him in a few times in London when he was on the stage in the late 50's and early 60's when I worked in Leicester Square. Great bloke and his TV shows were great also.

RIP George

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

and the 1970's/80's had changed hugely from the 40's/50's (and many older folks felt not for the better)and the 50's were way different to the 1910's (and many older folk felt not for the better)..Same in every generation or two;its what happens.

On the subject of George Cole, can remember watching Minder being a highlight of the week.

RIP

My idea of Arthur's last scene............

Chisholm - "Right Daley... I'm arresting you for fraud!"

Arthur - "Oooh my gawd Mr Chisholm, it's me ticker!

Chisholm - "Don't come the injured party Daley, I'm not buying that!"

Arthur - "Aaaaaaaaaaagghhh........ sigh"

Terry - "You slag Chisholm, you killed Arfur!"

Dave - "Never mind that Terry.... Arfur never paid his slate at the Winchester Club!"

RIP George/Arthur/Flash Arry
