This is the danger of letting people have pets, rather than pets having people. They may not be properly house trained.

Yeah, but if they survive the washing machine, they could always dry off in the microwave!

My mum washed our cat after it jumped in to the half-loaded machine which was suqsequently switched on. Broke the door jemmying it off, but the cat was fine somehow.
