Of course back in those days, you could still f**k the kids and get away with it.
But much less than they use to I'd imagine.

Ridiculous, obviously, but it wouldn't be an issue if the travel companies didn't shamelessly hike their prices during holiday time. Their greed leaves low income families with little choice except to go during term time or to miss out altogether.
Exactly...its creating its own issues...by having this rule it corners parents to a specific time; which in turn allows Airlines to hike their prices. If it was relaxed then it would allow for greater pressure to be exerted on the carriers to reduce their prices.

Over here if you took your kid out of school for a week, you would be hauled in front a school board and maybe even court. Its ridiculous, but its the way their education system is set up here. A week from school means you fall behind, and no teacher is going to help you catch up.

The teaching profession gets a lot of unfair stick from some....But here it's completely valid. It's barmy.....Unfortunately being a teacher I feel that way about quite a lot of things in education. This is a symptom of the government's shaping of education to overly focus upon set targets....attendance being one...And not look holistically at education.....Of course attendance matters but unless you're going to add meat to proposals then you're just waffling......Still when it comes to holidays....Some even handed common sense should be applied. This kind of thing doesn't surprise me...school's management teams are shaped into these slightly ridiculous governmental mouth pieces who put out the most awful approved jargon. I only went into teaching to teach my subject.....But the job comes with a minefield of bulls***......Mind you lots of jobs are similar so fair enough. You take the money, you take the bulls***. Stupid Bitch. You hardly suffer from missing a couple of weeks of school. I took my son out for a week and they tried to fine me but I'm not paying it and they can't make me either.

Sensible head teacher? [Link] Very. So long as the rest of the schools around her don't do the same, on the same week. Grouping them together has also got to be better for their purpose of training teachers too, rather than a day here and there which will mostly get wasted.
