Couldn't disagree more. Loved the film (watched it before reading) and love the book.

Really I thought it was an awful film and missed the whole point of the book. The author wasn't afraid to have his incredibly flawed protagonist think like an actual human. He is a bit of a dick, pretty randy and a bit of a coward but such an accessible character. This was lost in the film in my humble opinion. Also they had to Americanise it which didn't work.

I read Peter Benchley's Jaws book many years ago and thought it was really good. There's a lot of factual information in there about the science of sharks, as far as I can recall.

I am stuck on Ellen Brody masturbating in a diner at the moment.

I saw We Need To Talk About Kevin last night and was mightily impressed. Grim as f*ck though. Haven't read the book but I guess it's even more depressing.

I quite enjoy historical fiction and Ken Follets Pillars of the earth and World without end (much better than the first IMHO) both are excellent reads and although not a movie but 8 part mini series and both were great also if that sort of thing appeals. Another is The book thief which had great review for books but it was narrated in the voice of death and I couldn't get into it but the film was enjoyable. I enjoyed Dan Browns Angels and Demons book but turned the film off halfway through couldn't get into it. I suppose some make good films some don't all depends on lots of things though like storyline,director etc.

Another is The book thief which had great review for books but it was narrated in the voice of death and I couldn't get into it but the film was enjoyable.

I suppose some make good films some don't all depends on lots of things though like storyline,director etc.

It's a great book. I read it before seeing the film and would say it is far better and complex than the film. They changed a few things, for example it is a cross-bow in the book rather than a long-bow.
