Clinton Morrison hopes Middlesbrough defender Steve Vickers will complete a move to the club after his one-month loan spell has ended.
Vickers has been forced out of the Boro team and has been playing well while on loan for the Eagles, which has resulted in three straight wins and just two goals conceded.
Morrison said: "We're flying at the moment and Vickers has been outstanding at the back.
"We were leaking goals but his experience has helped and I hope he stays. He has looked great together with Tony Popovic and Hayden Mullins.
"I think the manager's trying to work out a compromise. It's difficult for him because his family don't want to leave home and his kids are at that age where they are just starting school.
"We train twice a week and he travels down, but it's a long way to come. I don't think he really wants to leave home."
But Vickers has yet to make a decision on his future at Selhurst Park.
He said: "I've still not decided what I'm going to do at the end of the month. It might be that the loan gets extended.
"At the moment I want to concentrate on playing well for Palace so that I earn myself the right to that choice."
