Eagles raid Rams for rare win on road

Crystal Palace gave their promotion hopes a boost with a much-needed 1-0 away win at Derby.

The Eagles claimed their first victory on their travels since November thanks to Yannick Bolasie's strike and Julian Speroni's late penalty save.

They remain in fourth but are two points off second-placed Watford who could only draw against Wolves. The rest of the Championship sides are in action on Saturday.

Bolasie put the Londoners ahead after 13 minutes with a strange assist from captain Mile Jedinak. The Aussie midfielder's challenge in his own half saw the ball loop over the Derby backline and Bolasie was first to react and he rounded keeper Adam Legzdins to score.

Jedinak then hit a thunderous shot that crashed onto the bar, while Derby started to get back into the game but spurned a number of chances.

And with just three minutes remaining, they were handed a lifeline when Jedinak brought down substitute Ben Davies in the penalty area. However, Conor Sammon's powerful spot-kick was expertly pushed onto the crossbar by Julian Speroni.

Palace secured a rare away triumph, while the Rams suffered their first home defeat of 2013.
