Simon Jordan
You can't ask for a better start to the season, says a delighted Jamesey after our 1-0 defeat of Leeds Utd (Aug 13).
Three games, three victories, nine points and sitting at the helm of the CCC.
And yet again the pattern repeats itself - a patchy first half to say the least, despite having a man extra after Horsfield's sending-off but a second half improvement spearheaded by bringing on the mighty Dougie Freedman.
That's the same recipe as the first two games and it seemed to work again although all credit to Peter Taylor's tactics.
He racked up the pressure and we finished the game with three strikers and Jobi McAnuff on the field and Clinton Morrison's injury time winner was well deserved.
The monsoon-style rain was a little worrying. Had it gone on much longer than it did, the game could have been abandoned. But fortunately our Selhurst drains coped and the players adapted well to the slippery conditions.
So we are all set up very nicely for next Saturday's outing to Birmingham...it will be a very interesting game indeed.
I was pleased to see Simon Jordan's notes reappearing in the Leeds match programme. Perhaps his pieces in the Observer have given him a taste for journalism?
I criticised Simon's Chairman's Comments in this column a couple of years back and quite legitimately I feel.
I thought his page was illiterate, badly written, arrogant and ill-considered.
Judging by today's effort, he has either been on a writing course or got a top-class sub-editor to check it all out for him.
And these days, he can even take the mickey out of himself, entitling the piece, "The Future's Bright, The Chairman's Orange".
Wonderful Simon...a little humility and self-deprecation in an area where I never thought I would see it.
Finally, having seen that there was a HOL get-together planned in the Selhurst Arms after the match, I stuck my head round the door.
The usual congregating area appeared to be reserved for dining and I couldn't see any familiar faces. Maybe I was too early?
Never mind I was intoxicated enough on the taste of victory and being the only club in the CCC so far with a 100% record.
