I would agree Patrick, if he continues to improve we will at last have a superb passer of the ball who can open up defenses with that killer pass.

It was his terrific pass that Olise should have scored from early in the match yesterday...

Wharton is so good it's mind boggling that no one else beat us to getting him. He's great on the ball, great with a pass, great at anticipating and breaking up passes. His shot is even pretty good. And he's so young. Great business by DF. It will just be a matter of how long we can keep him.

Big clubs were in for him, but couldn't guarantee first team football every week. Palace could, so he chose us, after seeing Eze and Olise flourish.

His young, enjoying his football and can only get better. As others have recognised, his range of passing is something we have been lacking in the team for years.

Yes…not just a bargain, but a player that adds so much more to the team.

I agree with all these positive comments. He has been a revelation, good in the tackle, full of running, quick thinking, range of passing., shows commitment and passion.

I thought for some time that we were really missing Gallagher but I think Wharton is actually better. Just the goals are missing but they will come.

I think it is Wharton who has unlocked the freedom of Eze and together with him has supercharged Mateta.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

A pattern or trend could be emerging :

Central Midfielders are playing pivotal roles for us in the middle of the park.

When Doucoure arrived I said he would win player of the season - he did!

This season - I said the same about Lerma when he arrived end of last season (he has a good chance)

When Wharton played at Brighton, I said next season he will win it. (Been stand-out) since and looking forward to watching him from game 1 next season.

I honestly think Wharton has an outside chance of going to the Euro's..!!

He's certainly better than Gallagher and Mainoo's form has dipped recently - playing in a poor/struggling Man U team..

We will see..

I think so too.

Another 6 months and he'll deffo be knocking on the door. He's go the technical ability and football intelligence to handle any step up.

IMO he's miles better than Gallagher (love him as I do).

Gallagher has some brilliant attributes though do seem suited to the more frenetic pace of PL football. I don't really see him as a regular England starter, especially in a pragmatic Southgate team.

Could Adam play (or be cover for) the deeper role alongside Rice where there is a gaping Calvin Phillips / Jordan Henderson hole in the squad? England do have a lot of high quality competition in the central attacking midfielder roles.

Southgate will be at Selhurst on Monday I'm sure

Yep, reckon he will, with a good selection of prospects on show - Eze, Guehi, Wharton, Henderson - all under his Eagle eye.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
